Anthony J. Biller understands that putting the needs and interest of his clients before his own engenders trust, leads to lasting relationships, and provides the satisfaction of knowing his clients are well served. A member at Coats + Bennett, he leads the firm's litigation practice, representing clients in patent, trademark copyright, trade secret lawsuits and related disputes. Mr. Biller assists people through legal crisis, placing particular interest in avoiding disputes before they arise, trying to resolve disputes early, and winning those cases he is not able to resolve.
Mr. Biller also spends a significant amount of his practice advising and assisting clients with managing their intellectual property assets. He advises clients on brand management, licensing, franchising, and entertainment law issues. Mr. Biller enjoys assisting people build, protect and exploit their ideas, identity and expressions.
He served as a United States District Court judicial clerk for the Honorable William L. Osteen, Sr., in the Middle District of North Carolina, and served four years as an officer in the United States Army where, as a Jumpmaster and Ranger, he led soldiers in the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Biller received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate, and his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Campbell University in 1997, where he served as the managing editor for the Campbell Law Review.
Mr. Biller is admitted to the practice of law in and appears before the courts of the State of North Carolina, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina, the United States Court of Claims, and before the Federal Courts of Appeal for the Federal, Fourth, and Sixth Circuits and the United States Supreme Court. His memberships include the American Bar Association litigation and intellectual property practice groups, the International Trademark Association, and the Federalist Society. Mr. Biller is a member of the Alliance Defense Fund’s National Litigation Honor Corps. He currently chairs the ABA's IPL committee on Trademark Litigation, and is the immediate past chair of the committee on Trademarks and the Internet, and was named to the North Carolina Business “Legal Elite” for Intellectual Property in 2008 and 2009.
In his free time, Anthony “Wise Frog” Biller is involved in the YMCA Guide/Indian Princess Program, where he proudly served as chief of the mighty Twirling Tulips tribe. He also coaches soccer at Colonial Baptist Church and enjoys triathlons. He and his wife homeschool their four children.
