Mark Bilak brings a well-balanced skill set, hard work and dedication to his patent law practice at Coats + Bennett. Experienced in preparing patent applications and invention disclosures in a broad range of technologies, he has a solid background in semiconductor technology, analog and digital circuits, memory systems, microprocessors, digital video systems, network processors, computer systems, high-speed I/O interfaces and communication systems. He is experienced in all aspects of the patent life cycle, and is the co-inventor on three issued U.S. Patents and six pending patent applications.
His professional career began at IBM where he worked as a microprocessor development engineer and successfully led the qualification efforts for the first product manufactured using an industry-first copper metallurgy wiring process developed by IBM. Other assignments included facilitating invention brainstorming sessions, drafting invention disclosures, reverse engineering, licensing patents and technology know-how, addressing adversely held patents, and drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
Mr. Bilak's Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, was obtained in 1996 from Alfred University. He earned his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont in 2000 and his Juris Doctor and certificate of Intellectual Property from Quinnipiac University School of Law, summa cum laude, in 2005.
Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark office, Mr. Bilak holds memberships in the North Carolina State Bar and the New York State Bar, as well as AIPLA, IEEE and the Tau Beta Phi National Honor Society. He established an alumni donation fund for the Electrical Engineering program at Alfred University, and in his spare time enjoys exercising, gardening and inventing.
