Stephen Herrera obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, cum laude, from Rutgers University in 1996.

As a registered patent agent, Mr. Herrera brings substantial engineering experience to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Mr. Herrera specializes in the preparation of applications involving software and telecommunications systems, as well as those in the mechanical arts.

Mr. Herrera has over 14 years of industry experience in software engineering and telecommunications. Mr. Herrera gained expertise in large-scale wireless communications systems while working with the New Jersey State Police as a Communications Engineer on the statewide wireless communication system.

Additionally, he designed and coded the Cellular 911 software presently in use by the State of New Jersey. Mr. Herrera joined MCI as a software engineer, where he worked on time sensitive software applications to implement 911 service in several large metropolitan areas.

Prior to joining Coats & Bennett, Mr. Herrera was a Technical Lead with Lucent Technologies, where he oversaw the development of communications packages executing on the PacketIN and SS7 Intelligent Networks.

Mr. Herrera is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and maintains an active membership in the Triangle Intellectual Property Law Association. Mr. Herrera can be reached at sherrera@coatsandbennett.com.
