Coats and Bennett, PLLC Celebrates 30 Years As A Full Service Intellectual Property Law Firm

CARY, N.C. (December 2017) – Coats and Bennett, PLLC, one of the nation’s highest rated intellectual property law firms, recently marked their 30th anniversary. Coats and Bennett has represented clients for three decades by providing innovative legal solutions to sophisticated global corporations, emerging technology firms, and sole entrepreneurs. Coats and Bennett has remained at the cutting edge of intellectual property law and has gained a reputation for being energetic, well-seasoned, bold, and insightful.

Coats and Bennett was established in 1987 as a two-person shop.  Since then, the firm has grown to 15 attorneys and patent agents. Will Pagan Keynote Speaker at NC Society of Hispanic Professionals Event

Coats + Bennett, PLLC is pleased to announce that distinguished attorney, William G. Pagán, was the keynote speaker at the North Carolina Society of Hispanic Professionals Meet & Greet, Wednesday August 23, 2017 at the NCCU School of Law, Durham NC.

Mr. Pagán graduated Summa Cum Laude from NCCU Law as Valedictorian of their evening program, and also holds Masters and Bachelor's Degrees in Computer Science.  He is an award-winning Patent Attorney, nationally-recognized engineer, tech-industry veteran, former IBM Master Inventor, valedictorian, pro-bono volunteer, and private pilot.

In 2007, he received a Luminary Award at the Hispanic Engineering National Achievement Awards Conference, and a Star Award from the Distributed Management Task Force.  He is also a life member of the Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers.  Mr. Pagán has won numerous awards for patent leadership and frequently mentored other technical staff on successful inventing and creative collaboration techniques.

Mr. Pagán is admitted to practice in North Carolina, as well as in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

CARY, N.C. – Coats + Bennett, PLLC, an intellectual property law firm, is ranked in the top ten among all law firms that practice patent law for their success with Pre-Appeal Brief conferences according to Juristat.  A pre-appeal brief conference allows a patent applicant who has received a final rejection from the Patent Office to have a formal review of their pending application and the final rejection.  The conference provides for a review without having to prepare a formal appeal brief and enter into the lengthy formal appeal process.  When successful, the conference provides significant time and cost savings for the patent applicant.

Every active lawyer in the state of NC is allowed to participate in the voting and those attorneys that earn the highest votes for the year are moved into the Hall of Fame. Mr. Kalish and Mr. Owen were elected to the list ranking top attorneys in the Intellectual Property category. In addition, three Coats and Bennett attorneys are listed in the Legal Elite Hall of Fame for Intellectual Property, David Krasnow (2010), Anthony Biller (2013), and Larry Coats (2014).

David Krasnow Joins Coats + Bennett’s Patent Practice

Coats + Bennett, PLLC, is pleased to announce that David Krasnow has joined the firm.  Mr. Krasnow’s experience spans a variety of technical areas and includes providing counsel on patent issues involving polymer chemistry, inorganic chemistry, optics, ocular science, pharmaceuticals, industrial gases, raw and specialty chemicals, coatings, refractory materials, material deposition, medical devices, and many other fields.

Mr. Krasnow has significant experience with matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Over a career spanning nearly 30 years, Dave has handled virtually every aspect of patent issues – from prosecution to due diligence to rendering all varieties of intellectual property opinions.  Dave is well-versed in issues related to invalidity and infringement as well as advising clients on valuation matters in complex merger, acquisition, divestiture, and initial public offering activities. 

“Dave Krasnow is a great addition to our firm,” states David Kalish, Managing Member.  “His experience in a wide range of patent issues builds on the strength of our already strong team.  His knowledge in chemistry will also bolster our technical abilities to serve a wide range of clients.”

Mr. Krasnow frequently speaks on matters related to his IP practice and has taught advanced patent law courses at the University of North Carolina and lectured annually at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He is active in a number of professional organizations and founded the Triangle Intellectual Property Law Association in Raleigh, and twice served as its President.  He has authored a number of publications regarding his experience in patent law and was recognized for his vast achievements with the induction into the NC Business Legal Elite Hall of Fame in 2010.

Dave earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Southampton College of Long Island University in New York and a law degree from the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia.
