Kathleen Cavanagh received a B.S. degree in Chemistry, summa cum laude, from North Carolina State University in 2004 where she worked as a research assistant to Dr. Jeffery White. Her research focused on catalytic processes with emphasis on isobutene activation and hydride transfer upon adsorption onto zeolites.

In 2007, Ms. Cavanagh received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Florida State University College of Law where she served as an Article Editor of the Florida State University Business Review and received Book Awards in Copyrights, Global Regulation of Pharmaceuticals, Land Transfers, Unincorporated Business Entities and Creditors Rights. Ms. Cavanagh was also awarded the Excellence in Pro Bono Award.

Ms. Cavanagh is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She is currently a member of AIPLA, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Alpha Chi Sigma Professional Chemistry Fraternity.
