Frank Abrams is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina with over 35 years of experience in academic research, teaching, administration, and consulting. He holds the PhD, granted in 1971 by NC State University, in biological and agricultural engineering. He began his faculty career at the University of Kentucky before returning to NC State as a member of the faculty. He is currently professor emeritus of biomedical engineering and biological and agricultural engineering at NC State. His research, teaching, and consulting include the areas of orthopedic biomechanics; tissue mechanics; agricultural crop harvesting, processing and handling; machine design; fluid power; automatic controls; and engineering design. He served for nine years as senior vice provost for academic affairs at NC State University, and at different times directed the graduate programs in biological and agricultural engineering and in biomedical engineering. He was a founding faculty member of the NC State University Biomedical Engineering department and was instrumental in forming first a joint graduate program in biomedical engineering with UNC-Chapel Hill and subsequently a joint department of biomedical engineering.

Frank assists with relevant research and various stages of patent preparation and prosecution.
